My name is Conall French, I am an Irish and Canadian national (and naturalized Costa Rican), born in Montreal, Quebec in 1968. I have studied in Canada and the USA, having taken 5 years of Architecture at Carleton University in Ottawa and graduated in 1995 from the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I left North America for good in 1997 to volunteer with NGOs and community organizations in several projects here in Central America focusing on sustainable eco/ethno-tourism among indigenous communities in Costa Rica, Panama, Nicaragua and Honduras. In those years I was teaching English to indigenous, as well as non-indigenous students, in the sphere of sustainable tourism. In 1998 I co-founded Galería Namu in San José, Costa Rica. At the time (and still now), this was a unique gallery showcasing tribal arts and cultural objects of Native groups from Costa Rica and the lower Central American isthmus, museum-quality replicas of Pre-Columbian objects and selected Costa Rican folk arts. Through marriage, I became a naturalized citizen. Residing in Heredia Province, I am a father of 2 teenage girls.

During my 30 years living and working in Central America (I am an Irish-Canadian dual national and naturalized Costa Rican citizen), I have logged experience teaching English, with an emphasis in applications for tourism, as well as having founded, in 1998, an internationally renowned art gallery in San José, Galería Namu, which focuses on Costa Rica's cultural and ethnographic richness. I bring to students a deep knowledge of the English language (geared for Spanish speakers), as well as linguistic explorations into the culture/arts, lifeways and environment of our region for those students perhaps wanting to employ English in the area of tourism. The first step with the student is to determine his or her level of proficiency. Through an easy-going and relaxed approach, my teaching technique emphasizes - structured through correct grammar - good pronunciation and conversational fluidity. Although I am fully fluent in Spanish, during lessons, I try to keep all conversation in English (reverting to Spanish only when it is necessary as a last resort). Although I bring to lessons exercises and practice work that I have tailored to one's aptitude and needs, I am open to including in the lessons students' specific input and focus requests.

Hola, mi nombre es Michael Sims. Soy educador en artes plásticas. He conocido a Conall por más de 20 años a través de la culturalmente importante Galería Namú (San José), donde él fue cofundador. Conall tiene mucha experiencia enseñando inglés (es bilingüe inglés/español) con el CPI (Centro Panamericano de Idiomas) y un largo período trabajando con la ONG ANAI dentro de la comunidad indígena Bribri en Yorkín. Conall añade su conocimiento técnico del lenguaje con un profundo conocimiento del arte, historia y cultura de Costa Rica.
